Ever had that feeling where everything is going right — and then you find yourself back in that space you never wanted to be in again?

This is where I find myself right now.

Through a series of unfortunate events affecting my wrists (a ligament tear and sprain on my right and left wrist respectively — in a previously injured spot. Double and triple ouch! 😬), I am back to wearing a splint and readjusting to life in the very slow lane.

Thankfully, the injuries this time are less severe, which means healing should happen faster. 🤞

It did send me down a rabbit hole of “how I could have / should have / would have prevented this.” But of course, that was the pain and frustration talking — because hindsight is always 20/20.

Here are some lessons and reflections that have been running through my mind. They apply to anyone who finds themselves in a situation that is less than optimal, yet keeps pushing through every day:

🦾 Be Careful What You Wish For

Looking ahead at my very busy Q1, I had wished for some downtime to slow down in between. This was not what I had in mind. 🫣

Thoughts and words are powerful — a good reminder to self to be more intentional about what I put out into the universe.

🦾 Acceptance and Gratitude Are Key

Over the next weeks and months of recovery, I’ll need to stop blaming myself (I have to get Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again” out of my head 😄), accept that I can only do so much, and learn to prioritise. Things will work out — in their own way and in their own time.

    🦾 Lean on Others

Continuing my daily practice of gratitude — reminding myself that I have a wonderful support system, the resilience to get through this, and the knowledge that this too shall pass.

Through technology (voice-to-text especially! 🙌) and people — my older daughter who is helping with more complex tasks (hi, she’s doing the final edits right now 👍), family, colleagues, and friends — which are, in fact, key elements of any strong system: the show will definitely go on.

This time around, I have a nicer and lighter white splint. The black one in 2023 was definitely a conversation starter — I was called “Bionic Woman” more than once 😎. At my first ISC2 Singapore chapter event, a couple of folks actually thought it was a bowling support and that I was there to win a tournament 😂

I’m still on hospitalisation leave, and I owe many people emails, messages, and replies. I will get to it — slow and steady. Thank you so much for your patience. 🙏
