Excited to share my first official contribution as Non-Resident Fellow of the Institute of South Asian Studies – NUS!

Thank you Prof. C. Raja Mohan and Hernaikh Singh for the opportunity, and I look forward to a continued meaningful association with ISAS.

In the article, I discuss how the IT Rules (commonly known as “India’s new social media rules”) enacted by the Indian government earlier this year have grave implications for personal liberties, free speech, and an open internet. On the other hand, there are positive developments in some areas of #cybersecurity and #cybersafety, with greater onus on digital intermediaries (#tech platforms) to keep users safer.

Read more about the #Security vs. #Freedom vs. #Politics and other paradoxes at play here, including the lack of a dedicated cybersecurity law for the country: https://lnkd.in/ge9-xdfV

Thank you to: Samir Aksekar for your inputs on the cybersecurity scene in India; to Mathew Chacko and Aadya Misra for their insightful commentary on this complex issue; and to Nithya Subramanian for the follow-ups 🙂
