📶 We can’t be secure in an insecure region or environment
📶 Cybersecurity is everyone’s business, it’s not a technical issue
📶 Talking to your family regularly about cybersecurity is good for organisational cyber resilience
📶 3 simple steps to keep yourself, your family, and your organisation safer online are:
- Update your software in real time
- Enable 2FA (two-factor authentication) or MFA (multi-factor authentication) on your devices
- Use long, complex passphrases, 15 characters or moreÂ
These are some of the key messages from the interview with Australia’s National Cyber Security Coordinator Lieutenant General Michelle McGuinness at theMastercard ASEAN Inclusive Growth Summit at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 24 October.Â

Thank you to the @Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth for bringing #cyberinclusion and #cyberawareness into the main agenda – as Coordinator McGuinness pointed out: We are all facing the same challenges, and we are all in this together. Â

Attn Parents: Survey Form on Online Child SafetyÂ
Digital technologies in #schools have produced unexpected results when they are not leveraged in the right ways – including reduced IQs and reduced learning outcomes.
With #ai racing into classrooms, bringing both promise and real risks, we need more conversations – not hype – about tech and AI in schools.
We also need more data about online safety challenges #parents face and how schools can work with parents to navigate the complex digital landscape.
Parents: If you are based in #apac and have kids aged 3-18, please spare 5 minutes to fill in this survey: https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=ptJG7UUu_0uE_YFvh5EwBolCwmRAj7FEsenotkzCTjhUMlhXOVFZNFE5MktTSTRRRlo1TEhNWEMyRi4u&route=shorturlÂ

Why Cyber Inclusion MattersÂ
❓Why does cyber inclusion matter for financial inclusion and economic growth?
❓How does keeping our family safe online relate to organisational cybersecurity?
❓How can keeping our people well online improve cybersecurity outcomes?
These are some of the burning questions I posed to Australia’s National Cyber Security Coordinator Lieutenant General @Michelle McGuinness at the inaugural Mastercard ASEAN Inclusive Growth Summit held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 24 October.Â
Over a fireside chat, we discussed how cybersecurity is a human issue, and not just a technical one, focusing on:Â
🌟The Australia–ASEAN partnership, and shared priorities in cyberspace Â
🌟 How greater public cyber awareness results in a safer online business environment  Â
🌟 The role of regulation and policy in protecting businesses – and young peopleÂ
🌟How greater inclusion and diversity in cyber boosts cyber resilienceÂ
Coordinator McGuinness is a role model for making strides in traditionally been male-dominated fields, and it was an honour to engage with her during the course of the summit. We discussed technical and human facets of cyber, including why cyber awareness begins at home. Â
Many thanks to the organisers for entrusting me with this conversation, for having cyber inclusion as part of the mainstream conversation on inclusion and economic growth, and for such a seamless and power-packed event.Â
We need more such synergies – digital transformation needs safety and security alongside it to truly be a game changer in the region. Â
Meanwhile, basking in the glory of another successful moderating engagement, and recovering after a hectic week in India-Singapore-Malaysia!
